We at Samson's have a unique way of looking at life....in action. Each of us has the opportunity to choose how we are going to live our lives. We can choose to seek the shelter of a densely treed forest where it's safe and comfortable, or we can experience the rewards and the breathtaking view that awaits us at the top of life's mountains. If we're willing to be pushed to the limits of our human abilities...there's no telling what we might be able to accomplish. Join us through one or more of our exciting programs and begin to experience life the way it was meant to be lived! A BRIEF HISTORY Samson's began as Samson's Gym back in 1992. The equipment needed to open this facility was donated by Ben & Joe Weider. Since the initial donation of equipment, a very generous local businessman has provided us with what we have today. This program was initially an opportunity for teenagers, 15-18 years of age, to build muscle in a safe and helpful environment. With the help of dedicated volunteer staff, we were open for teenage members to work out 5-6 times a week. During our first years, we trained a number of young bodybuilders who competed in local and Canadian level competitions. We have taken trips to Atlanta and Los Angeles to watch the world's premier bodybuilding event, the Mr. Olympia. Around 1998, we began to expand our programs in order to provide many more opportunities for teenagers to participate in sports, fitness & recreational activities. In addition to our Fitness Centre, we have added: The Prairie Fire BikeClub & Racing Team, Outdoor & Indoor Soccer Leagues, S.W.A.T.Samson's Wilderness Adventure Team, The W.F.H.L.Winnipeg Floor Hockey Leagues, A Girls Volleyball League, The Fire Escape Drop-In Centre, A Work Experience program and we provide weight room supervision as well as team coaching in local schools. Each of our programs is open for Jr. High and High School students except for the Fitness Centre where the age restriction is 14-18. Our greatest desire is to provide teenagers with amazing opportunities to reach their full God given potential in every area of life. We care for each participant emotionally, mentally, relationally, physically and spiritually. We know the teenage years are often the toughest years in life and we want to be present to help young people weather these storms and move into adulthood with strong self-esteem and purpose for living. All of our programs are supervised by a dedicated team of adult staff and volunteers. Our main office is presently located at 325 Talbot Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Samson's is a program of Youth For Christ, an international registered non-profit charity which began in 1954. |
