Volunteer Opportunities

We are in the beginning stages of working with pre-teen community schools. Our desire is to provide volunteers for existing after school programs which are being supervised by the schools as well as help establish additional programs for the grade 5 & 6 age group. By working with this age group we are introducing them to the idea of participating in our Jr. High Floor Hockey League. Winnipeg Floor Hockey League

Our greatest need in this program is for mentors. A mentor is responsible to build relationships with a team of 5 boys while playing floor hockey with them on a weekly basis. The mentor provides transportation to and from games, is in contact with each team member weekly and looks for ways to deepen their relationship with each boy on the team. Samson's Fitness Centre

Our state of the art Fitness Centre is currently open for teenagers 14-18 years of age Monday to Thursday from 4:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday from 3:30-5:00 p.m. In this program we build relationships through physically working out with an individual or a small group of teenagers. We help train young people to develop overall conditioning, in body- building or to improve for a specific sport. Each open evening has a team of volunteer staff who work together with a team leader in order to create a culture conducive to spiritual transformation. Prairie Fire Bike Club & Racing Team

During the Spring, Summer and Fall, volunteer staff are needed to participate with a group of teenagers on weekly rides. These rides take place within the city and where other challenging terrain exists. Through facing the physical and mental challenges of extreme riding, we have an amazing opportunity to share with youth our need to have God sustain us in the daily challenges of life. During the winter months we will focus more on the mechanical side of bikes together with various types of training. The Fire Escape

Located in the heart of Elmwood, The Fire Escape provides a place of safety and support for teenagers and their families. On Wednesday evenings in our drop-in centre, you can build relationships with youth around a pool table, playing video games or participating in dis-organized dodge ball. We are also in the process of developing a wide variety of other opportunities like: Guitar lessons, Rapping, Break Dancing and Drama. Through this program, you can help guide and direct young people in constructive life choices. There are few environments that will challenge and grow your faith like The Fire Escape. Samson's Wilderness Adventure Team

SWAT introduces teenagers to our Creator through the beauty of His Creation and the incredible challenges of the wilderness. Rock climbing, canoing, camping , hiking, fishing and other outdoor activities are planned throughout the year and take place with youth on a weekly basis. Each of the planned activities provides volunteer staff with an opportunity to help young people face significant challenges in order to better equip them for the challenges of life. We are currently working with the government to lease a parcel of wilderness property we can use as a base for a variety of wilderness activities. Work Experience

Consider the incredible benefit of providing hands on work experience for a 14 year old who represents a visible minority. We have a growing number of youth interested in this type of involvement with us. Volunteer staff have a great opportunity to help train and equip these young people with the skills necessary to make it in the working world. Building a quality relationship of trust while making sure weekly responsibilities are met is part of a volunteer staffs role with this program. In the process of learning the discipline of work, we want young people to understand the incredible benefits of practicing spiritual disciplines. Coaching/Weight Room Supervision in Public Schools

We have a wonderful opportunity to serve in the schools by providing sports team coaching or weight room supervision. Coaching requires a very serious commitment of 2 to 4 after school sessions each week, approximately 6-8 hours throughout a sports season. Something like weight room supervision can be done once a week for approximately 2 hours. If you have basketball, volleyball, track or football experience or would like to help students in their resistance training, please contact Steve Klassen at sjklassen@samsons.org

With all the great places to get involved as outlined above, you might think all the bases are covered...not so. *If you happen to be a person who loves taking pictures, videos and making other forms of multi-media come alive, we would be thrilled to have you join our team. *Maybe you really enjoy sports, fitness & recreational activities but also have gifts in the area of financial management. If so, we need to talk! *We are presently exploring the possibility of hosting gym blasts in Winnipeg schools. If this becomes a reality, we will need volunteer staff who are able to give some time during the day Monday to Friday. *We have a clear vision for a much larger, more central location for our ministry centre. If you are involved in real estate, want to contribute financially or would like to help hands on with a building project, we would really appreciate your help.

Prairie Fire Bike Club & Racing Team Director

If you are a biking enthusiast and want to use your passion to positively influence the next generation in all areas of life, we invite you to join our team. We have a fledgling program in operation which needs quality leadership to take it to new heights. We have focused mainly on mountain biking but are open to other types of cycling as well. During the summer months we carry out weekly rides and regular race attendance. In the winter months we focus more on bike maintenance and off season training. The Bike Club Director is responsible to recruit, train and mobilize a team of top quality volunteer and/or paid staff in order to multiply his/her efforts. The director is responsible to locate the equipment and financial resources needed to run this program. The Bike Club Director will work together with a leadership team of existing and future Samson's staff. The Director of the Bike Club is accountable to the Samson's Director.

This ministry uses a Drop-In Centre, a growing number of relationships with schools and works with community agencies to bring hope and support into the lives of youth and their families. This community is characterized by single parent, low income home environments that create increased challenges for teenagers who are already dealing with the everyday pressures of adolescense. This ministry is ideally suited for a married couple who would like to move into the community and develop their outreach from the inside-out. The Fire Escape Director(s) is responsible to recruit, train and mobilize a team of top quality volunteer and/or paid staff in order to multiply his/her efforts. The Director(s) needs to facilitate the upkeep, maintenance, improvement and day to day operation of the Fire Escape facility. The Director will work together with a leadership team of existing and future Samson's staff. The Fire Escape Director(s) is accountable to the Samson's Director.

Fitness Centre Director

The Fitness Centre is a great place to learn about physical discipline and the incredible ways it can improve almost every aspect of our daily lives. Our Fitness Centre is in need of a person or persons who have a vision for using this environment as a way to facilitate physical, emotional, relational, mental and spiritual growth in people of all ages with the majority of our focus being teenagers. The Fitness Centre Director is responsible to recruit, train and mobilize a team of top quality volunteer and/or paid staff in order to multiply his/her efforts. The Director needs to facilitate the upkeep, maintenance, improvement and day to day operation of the Fitness Centre facility. The Director will work together with a leadership team of existing and future Samson's staff. The Fitness Centre Director is accountable to the Samson's Director.

Gym Blast/Publicity Director

This area of our ministry is yet to be developed. In our opinion, the concept of a Gym Blast is an incredible way to serve local schools while informing students about our various programs through a fun, high energy, competitive environment. It has the potential to grow a team of people who carry out the Gym Blasts while increasing the number of teenagers participating in each of our programs. The Gym Blast/Publicity Director is responsible to recruit, train and mobilize a team of top quality volunteer and/or paid staff in order to multiply his/her efforts. The Director will make contact with schools in order to schedule Gym Blasts together with using this and other means to increase the awareness of each of our Samson's programs in and around Winnipeg. The Gym Blast/Publicity Director will locate the financial resources necessary to purchase equipment and other resources needed to effectively and creatively inform teenagers and others about Samson's. The Director will work together with a leadership team of existing and future Samson's staff. The Gym Blast/Publicity Director is accountable to the Samson's Director.

Work Experience Director

Our Work Experience program is a bundle of potential waiting to be unleashed. There are countless numbers of teenagers who would enjoy and benefit incredibly from the opportunity to work even a few hours each week. The Work Experience Director is responsible to recruit, train and mobilize a team of top quality volunteer and/or paid staff in order to multiply his/her efforts. The Director will seek out places where work can be done and coordinate the involvement of students to carry out and complete the specified tasks. The Work Experience Director will locate the financial resources necessary to provide each worker with a pay check. The Director will work together with a leadership team of existing and future Samson's staff. The Work Experience Director is accountable to the Samson's Director.

Director Of Administration

Some people are wired and gifted to bring order out of chaos. Samson's Sports & Fitness Centre needs a person who can provide the administrative backbone to a vibrant and growing ministry. The Director of Administration will serve the entire ministry by developing and maintaining effective systems through which our organization can function most efficiently. The Director will work together with a leadership team of existing and future Samson's staff. The Director of Administration is accountable to the Samson's Director.

The SWAT Director(s) will locate the necessary equipment and financial resources needed to run this program. The SWAT Director(s) will work together with a leadership team of existing and future Samson's staff. This position is ideally suited for a married couple who want to serve God together. The Director(s) of SWAT is accountable to the Samson's Director.

Samson's Multi-Media Director

Some people have been given the incredible gift of being able to visually represent an organization to it's participants and draw others in to seek involvement. We are desiring to have the right person help us capture what we do on video, develop DVD's for youth, upgrade our web site and create a ministry program for teenagers who enjoy doing the same. The Multi-Media Director is responsible to recruit, train and mobilize a team of top quality volunteer and/or paid staff in order to multiply his/her efforts.The Director will facilitate the planning and carrying out of weekly activities where teenagers can connect with adult mentors. The Multi-Media Director will locate the necessary equipment and financial resources needed to run this program.equipment and financial resources needed to run this program.
