Volunteer Opportunities
We presently have several programs operational with the need for volunteer staff in each program. In each program area, we have ministry teams working together to impact teenagers. We believe strongly in teams and the support we need from others if we are going to effectively make a difference for God's Kingdom here on earth. In the midst of a culture that places an unhealthy amount of emphasis on outward appearances, we want to have a different perspective...
"We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:18
Listed below are our programs and some specifics regarding volunteer involvement. As you check out our exciting ministry opportunities consider this: Samson's exists to lead teenagers into a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ through sports, fitness & recreational activities.
Samson's Soccer Leagues
Soccer is on its way to becoming the most participated-in sport in the world. In Winnipeg the amount of people wanting to play indoor winter soccer far exceeds the amount of available facility space. We carry out winter and summer seasons of futsal/soccer in order to make long term relationships with teenagers far more effective. Each of our soccer teams functions best with two volunteer coach/mentors. The size of each team is dictated by the size of field or gymnasium used for playing. If you have a passion for soccer and would like to have an eternal impact in young peoples lives at the same time, contact Brock Groening at brock@samsons.org.
Samson's Girls Volleyball League
Our first girls only league began in 2006/07 with over 20 girls and 3 teams. As we continue this program many more girls want to become involved and therefore our need for volunteer staff is increasing. If you love volleyball, teenagers and God, we have a place for you to serve. We currently play once a week. Each team has approximately 8 girls and 1 or 2 mentors. If you would like to be involved or would like more information please contact Brock at 669-4205 or email brock@samsons.org.
Winnipeg Ball Hockey League
Our greatest need in this program is for mentors. A mentor is responsible to build relationships with a team of 5 boys while playing ball/floor hockey with them on a weekly basis. The mentor provides transportation to and from games, is in contact with each team member weekly and looks for ways to deepen their relationship with each boy on the team. We are also in need of volunteers who are able to provide quality refereeing at each of our games If you are a ball hockey junky and want to make a difference in the lives of teenagers, check out the WFHL web page and contact Steve Harder at steveharder@gmail.com.
Samson's Fitness Centre
Our state of the art Fitness Centre is currently open for teenagers 14-18 years of age Monday to Friday in the evenings. In this program we build relationships through physically working out with an individual or a small group of teenagers. We help train young people to develop overall conditioning, in body- building or to improve for a specific sport. Each open evening has a team of volunteer staff who work together with a team leader in order to create a culture conducive to spiritual transformation. If you enjoy spending time working out and want to help teenagers reach their physical, spiritual, relational and emotional potential, please contact Ryan Dueck at ryan@samsons.org
The Atrium Youth Centre
In this Youth Centre environment at 333 King Street, volunteers are needed Monday to Friday evening to connect with teenagers in a safe place where pool, basketball, air hockey, video games, foosball, ball hockey, table games and so much more are available. If you like to hang out with youth and want to help provide support for them through the challenges of everyday life, please contact Derek Martens derekmartens@hotmail.com or Charyssa Looy cdlooy@gmail.com
Samson's Wilderness Adventure Team
SWAT introduces teenagers to our Creator through the beauty of His Creation in the wilderness. Rock climbing, canoeing, camping, hiking, fishing, biking and other outdoor activities are planned throughout the year and take place with youth on a weekly basis. Each of the planned activities provides volunteer staff with an opportunity to help equip young people for the challenges of life. We are currently working with the government to lease a parcel of wilderness property we can use as a base for a variety of wilderness activities. If you get fired up about enjoying the great outdoors, please contact Joel Unruh at joel@samsons.org.
The Rock Climbing Club
This year round climbing program is a perfect opportunity for climbing enthusiasts to partner their love for climbing with a chance to make an eternal impact in the lives of teenagers. During the colder months our indoor wall at 333 King Street is the primary location for this program. In the summer months, climbing trips will be taken to various natural rock climbing locations. Rappelling and climbing are also an option outdoors at King Street during the warmer months. lf you'd like to get involved, please contact Titus Graham at titus@samsons.org
Coaching/Weight Room Supervision in Public Schools
We have a wonderful opportunity to serve in the schools by providing sports team coaching or weight room supervision. Coaching requires a very serious commitment of 2 to 4 after school sessions each week, approximately 6-8 hours per week throughout a sports season. Something like weight room supervision can be done once a week for approximately 2 hours. If you have basketball, volleyball, track or football experience or would like to help students in their resistance training, please contact Steve Klassen at sjklassen@samsons.org.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
With all the great places to get involved as outlined above, you might think all the bases are covered...not so. For these or any other inquiries about joining our ministry team at Samson's, please contact Steve Klassen at sjklassen@samsons.org or call 204-669-4205 extension 208 anytime.
Employment Opportunities
" The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest field." Matthew 9:37-38
At Samson's, we have the incredible privilege of working together in order to lead teenagers into a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ through sports, fitness & recreational activities. We get to spend time doing the activities we enjoy while at the same time facilitating the opportunity for spiritual transformation to take place in young lives. Interestingly enough...we are transformed in the process. If you feel God has placed in you a strong desire to work with teenagers through one or a variety of sports, fitness or recreational activities and would like nothing more than to do it as a career, please look over the following opportunities.
